So I know you can use Xbox and PS controllers on Steam. Using a controller on Steam. Solved Does the Steam Link work with a monitor instead of a TV and a wireless 360 controller vs a Steam.

TUAW reader Jon emailed in the other day to ask about possible game controllers for Mac, and while we've covered this issue before,. In short, the best way to use a game controller with your Mac is just to use one of the better controllers out there: the wired version of Microsoft's Xbox 360 controller (or, if you wish, any compatible third-party version).
The port on it is just a standard USB, so it should plug right into your Mac. And in some cases that's all you need -, for example, will make use of your controller right out of the box (which is actually easier than it works on Windows, incidentally, where you need to install an official driver), and there are other games around (I've been playing in my Chrome browser quite a bit lately) that will work great right away. I haven't tried on my Mac yet, but I presume it too will work just as well. If the game you're trying to play doesn't directly support the controller, however, then things get a little more complicated.
There is for free online, and it will cover you for a lot of games that already support controller setups. But every once in a while you'll come across a game that requires you to use a keyboard, and for those times, you'll need to download a helper app, something like (from the Mac App Store). That app will let you map the Xbox 360 controller's buttons to standard mouse and keyboard functions, so you can use your controller to do anything you want. Apple seems closer than ever to actually bringing full apps to the Apple TV, and when it does, you have to think it will also create some kind of controller device (or include that functionality directly in iOS somehow). Until then, however, Microsoft's controller works perfectly well, and with a little bit of tweaking, you can get it to do whatever you need.
Do you REALLY want to use a game controller with that game? Mouse and keyboard are SO much better.
You can turn quicker, you can aim more precisely. I just never understand why people continue to use game controllers with FPS-type games on PCs. It's like oil and water.
6 of one, 1/2 dozen of the other. I use my gamepad predominantly for the fact I contracted carpel tunnel from hour upon hour of command and conquer. I find the controller more comfortable and much more ergonomic (I also can't type, and have large fingers anyway), and to me thats worth getting shot in the back occasionally. If you need more proof I play combat arms and maintain a.82 KDR (up.03% from M+KB plus I can play more than two matches a day because of the pain in my wrist). By the by, I notice you list a 360 game pad in your specs. Hypocrisy much?
And always remember, without oil you can't get to work to pay for all that water. Speaking of water. Thought you might appreciate that. 6 of one, 1/2 dozen of the other.

I mainly use the 360 controller for sports games, but definitely NOT for FPS games, especially where I play online. I don't see that as hypocrisy. Now, if I were playing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 with it, then yes, that would be hypocrisy. Hence, the smiley. Maybe the or would have been better? I also use it for driving/racing games. I just can't see shelling out money for a wheel as I don't have THAT many racing games (waiting for Dirt 2 to drop in price and then I'll get it.
Love the demo!) See, this is what I hate about IM style communication, no sense of emotion behind the posts. I'm not familiar with the smiley system either. Actually, I remember reading an article one that said people whom text, or IM alot are losing there ability to recognise actual peoples emotions because real facial expressions are more minute that the emoticons. I'm just glad I have enough human contact to still know how people feel, evan if I am so attentions starved that I feel the need to be a part of a computer forum to, in a way of speaking, talk to my people. Suddenly I feel sorry for myself.
Oh well, I usually write the best in this mood anyway.
